The shock simulator is made using a friction welded honeycomb structure manufactured from high performance materials
Explicit non-linear dynamic analysis was used to develop the GEN-4 fixture and test simulation strategies. The model includes the viscoelastic properties of the custom made elastomers, bush snubbing, preloading and friction coefficients of fasteners, to provide a complete picture of the performance of the system to 20kHz in all degrees of freedom.
Re:Test can optionally supply you with the electrodynamic shaker. A powerful general purpose tool that can be used for all your MIL STD 810 tests
If you don't want or need to invest in a vibration test facility, Re:Test can build a self-contained dedicated bench mount system with it's own optional sound chamber
The WSS-VT system provides you with the flexibility to perform Weapon Shock Simulation and a host of other shock and vibration tests. However it requires infrastructure such as an ED shaker, sound room, and ductwork. Our WSS-TB system provides everything you need in one stand-alone turn-key press-button package. It is also capable of meeting your most demanding weapon shock tests
50mm (2in) peak-to-peak stroke, 20kN (4.8kip) force and 2m/s (78.7in/sec) velocity
If you have a specific shaker in mind, shoot us the specs and we will let you know if it will work for your application.
Most customers install the WSS-VT in a sound enclosure (the system produces just over 100dBA of sound at 1m). If you buy the WSS-TB, it has an optional sound enclosure that drops the sound to less than 90dBa

Electrical: 480VAC, 3 phase (other voltages on request)
Amplifier: 33kVA, 40A max load, 60A fused disconnect
Motorized gear box (MGB): 0.25kVA, 1A max load, 3A fused disconnect or switch.
We can also supply a shaker in 208VAC (33kVA, 92A full load, 140A fused disconnect)
Other: 10 gallons of Shell Tellus 68 or equivalent hydraulic oil.

Electrical: 208VAC, 3 phase, 150A breaker (other voltages on request)
Both Systems
Floor load: 36 kPa (750 psi)
Pneumatic: One source of clean, dry compressed air 90-125 psi with a ¼” NPT connection point. Flow is minimal (for the airbags which barely leak)
It is somewhat adjustable, but this is generally not a tuned parameter. It is nominally 600 rounds/min or single shot regardless of weapon size. We wouldn’t go any faster than that. For every 20 seconds of running, the bushings require 10s of cool down
Each weapon is tuned by adjusting the impact velocity and strike pad materials to shape the lab SRS to the measured SRS on the weapon
You can mount as many specimens as you can physically fit on the Picatinny rail interface. with a maximum combined weight of around 7lbs on each side. The added weight does not affect performance.
There are 12 bushings that cost around $60ea (price varies based on commodities). These need to be replaced every year or so. The measurement equipment and accelerometers will require calibration, the shaker should have an annual maintenance, which you can do yourselves, or via a maintenance contract with the shaker manufacturer, the test bench requires a $200 belt change every two years.
